Faculty of Engineering
Mete Ömerali
2008 - Computer Engineering Graduate
I’ve always wanted to become a Computer Engineer. Even in a middle school yearbook, my friends wrote about seeing me as Computer Engineer in the future. My personal interests and the importance of technologies in our lives made me become a student at Department of Computer Engineering at Izmir University of Economics in 2004. After I graduated, I started to work with Embryonix, a great advantage offered by the University. My first job experience started in my senior year and continued the following year. Later in 2009, I was accepted to Software Engineering and Project Management Master’s Program, a joint program by the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, to further my education and gain different visions with references of my instructors and a successful GPA. It is not easy to see the benefit of being offered a second foreign language and medium of instruction being English while studying and struggling with compelling courses at Izmir University of Economics, however, you go abroad and you start to turn all those hardships you endured into benefit. Things we found senseless, unrealistic, things we thought our instructors were torturing us with while we were at school, in fact, what made us ready for life, for our career. After working with Ericsson for about a year for my master’s thesis, I started to interview with World renowned companies. I started to work at Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC), an American based global company with over 6000 employees worldwide, in Software and Engineering field in Sweden. In 2014, only 4 years into my employment, I became the Director of Technical Sales Department Manager of PCT for Turkey, Greece, and Middle East thanks to the qualified education and foreign language instruction I received. You diploma may be very useful when getting your job but securing your position there has to do with being raised in a free, modern, innovative environment as Izmir University of Economics which educates individuals by following the vision and path of Ataturk. I can advise prospective university students to make a firm decision about their future career, and I believe many successful universities such as Izmir University of Economics, would help you open new doors in life.
