'Green' support to the businesses
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Engineering has added a new support to companies operating in different fields such as food, energy, finance, and petro chemistry, on the subject of "Green Reconciliation". A protocol was signed between IUE and Mun Reklam Ajansı (Advertising Agency), owned by Cansu Altay, who graduated from IUE Department of Public Relations and Advertising in 2010. Academic support and training will be provided to companies working with the agency on the "Green Reconciliation" and "Carbon Footprint" as part of the cooperation.
The 'Green Reconciliation Action Plan' in Turkey entered into force with the Presidential Circular published in the Official Gazette on 16 July 2021. Taking action in line with the demands of the business world, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Engineering started to develop cooperation with companies. IUE will guide companies not to be subject to the “Carbon Border Tax" that will come into effect in 2026, and will measure the "carbon footprint" of the products. Within the scope of collaborations aiming to create a 'Green Reconciliation Action Plan' for each company, consultancy will be given to companies in terms of making life cycle analyzes for the green transformation movement and ensuring sustainability. IUE Faculty of Engineering and Mun Advertising Agency took an exemplary step towards this goal by joining forces.
ACTION MUST ALSO BE TAKEN INDIVIDUALLY
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Görkem Üçtuğ, Vice Dean of IUE Faculty of Engineering, stated that the work being done in terms of reducing the negative effects of the climate crisis was very valuable. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Üçtuğ said, “The Green Reconciliation Action Plan is a guidance that is compatible with the transformation policies in the world economy, especially in the European Union, and it encourages green investments and contributes to the transformation of global value chains. Thanks to this action plan, it is mainly aimed to zero carbon emissions, invest in environmentally friendly technologies and encourage innovation in production. The aim is to reduce the negative effects of the climate crisis. In this regard, it should not be forgotten that the investments made by a company alone will not be enough, and that all stakeholders, employees and even consumers should take action individually.”
HIGH VALUE-ADDED RESULTS
Expressing that they have developed a new model that will set an example for Turkey by combining engineering and communication, Cansu Altay, President of Mun Agency, said, “What large industrial organizations or brands do to reduce the effects of the global climate crisis, whether they fulfill their responsibilities for the world we live in, whether they act in line with sustainability values, has also become one of the main topics of marketing communication. The trainings we will co-deliver with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Görkem Üçtuğ stand in a different place from other types of consultancy in the sector. We aim to achieve high value-added results for companies and reveal the synergy of engineering and communication.”
