2020 Tubitak Supported Graduation Projects
We would like to share with you brief information about the graduation projects of our students who are currently eligible to graduate and continue their graduation projects.
The main subject of our senior project is ‘Biomedical Spectroscopy of Artificial Human Samples/Biomolecules for Diagnostic Purposes Combined with Machine Learning and Multivariate Statistical Analysis’. The aim of the project was to develop a rapid, economical and sensitive diagnostic method that uses ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and UV-Vis spectroscopy for detection of disease biomarkers combined with machine learning and multivariate data analysis. Our senior project was qualified to support by TUBITAK 2209 / A program. In this project, we are trying to solve prolonged diagnosis processes, reduce the cost of medical analysis and improve sensitivity and specificity of the tests.

Various researches on the interactions of protein-drug active substances, which have gained importance in many fields such as medicine, chemistry, biology, biomedical and toxicology, have been carried out recently. It is very important to work with the exact protein, since drug active substances are usually bound to proteins in the blood and delivered to the target area through the bloodstream. The drug active substance we work with is used as the active substance of chemotherapy drugs in the treatment of various cancers. In our experimental studies, we use FTIR spectrophotometer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and Fluorescence spectrophotometer to observe the interactions of these protein-drug active substance and to interpret based on the correlations between their concentrations. At the same time, we use computational molecular docking programs to achieve clearer results regarding the possible binding sites of the drug active substance on proteins simultaneously with the spectroscopic studies we conduct in the laboratory.
This project, which we conduct under the supervision of Associate Professor Günnur GULER Lecturer, is supported by the TUBITAK 2209-A grant programme. (Project number : 1919B011903382)
