Academics from the Faculty of Engineering at İzmir University of Economics achieved significant success at the “University–Industry Collaboration Projects Awards,” organized for the first time this year by the Aegean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO).

Five scientists from Izmir University of Economics (IUE) have launched a research project to develop a drug for osteoporosis, commonly known as bone loss, which primarily affects women over the age of 50. 

A vibrating smart wristband project developed for visually impaired individuals through the collaboration of the Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Engineering and Izmir Girls High School has won first place in the Izmir regional round of the High School Students Research Projects Competition organized by TUBITAK. The project, titled ‘GORUNGU: A Haptic Wristband for Accessible Chemistry’, was developed in the field of chemistry under the theme of ‘Accessible Life Technologies’.

The workshop titled “From the Other Side: Insights Into the Master's Experience at Politecnico di Milano”, organized by the Department of Aerospace Engineering, was successfully held.

During the event, Ahmet Orhun Sivaslı shared his experiences of pursuing a master’s degree at Politecnico di Milano and provided insights into the application process, academic life, and international study opportunities. The workshop attracted interest from students, who also had the chance to ask questions about studying abroad.

Prof. Dr. Aydın Akan, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and one of the few Turkish academics selected for the list of the “World’s Most Influential Scientists”, has added a new milestone to his international achievements. 

Students from Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Engineering have developed a specialized robot capable of scanning surfaces and conducting exploration in space, thanks to its integrated robotic arm, camera, and sensors. 

The IEU Racing Formula Student Team, operating under the Faculty of Engineering at İzmir University of Economics, visited the İzmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO) accompanied by Dr. Lütfi Mutlu, a faculty member of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering. The visit was attended by Yiğit Berke Tabak, a first-year Mechanical Engineering student and President of the IEU Racing Formula Student Team, along with team members.

The Department of Aerospace Engineering organized a field trip on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, to the National Defence University Air Non-Commissioned Officer Vocational School and the Air Technical Schools Command Aircraft Maintenance School Command in Gaziemir/Izmir. Associate Professor Dr. Cem Tahsin Yücer, a faculty member of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, and students from the Department of Aerospace Engineering participated in the trip.

At this year's ATAConf'25 Conference, our Aerospace Engineering students Berk Belkıs and Ekin Mesut Denizel, under the guidance of their advisor Prof. Dr. Lale Can Dülger, successfully presented their paper titled "Haptic Technologies in Aviation and Aerospace Tasks."

Additionally, our Aerospace Engineering graduate Ferudun Efe Ketme presented his paper titled "Ducted Fan UAV for Agricultural Purposes," prepared under the guidance of his advisor Dr. Osman Nuri Şahin.
