Izmir University of Economics (IUE) took action with the aim of bringing in young people who are experts in the field of informatics, who have the software and coding knowledge needed by the business world, to our country. Aiming to reach university graduates from all over Turkey and offer new career and career opportunities, IUE will start an 18-week training program on August 1. Drawing attention to the rapid change in technology and digitalization, IUE President of the Board of Trustees Mahmut Özgener said, “The training program, which was prepared in line with the demands of the business world, was an important step both in meeting the need for qualified workforce and in providing young people with new competencies, and was a very good example of university-industry integration.”
Applications for the 'Software and Coding Certificate Program', which was created as a result of a detailed study by Izmir University of Economics Engineering Faculty and Continuing Education Center (EKOSEM), will continue until 20 July. Anyone who graduated from undergraduate and associate degree programs can apply to the certificate program. Initially, a total of 80 people will be able to attend, 40 of which are face-to-face and 40 are online.

IZMIR'S LEADING ROLE
Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO) Executive Board and President of IUE Board of Trustees, said that they want to develop the pioneering role that Izmir has assumed in many areas such as entrepreneurship and innovation, financial technologies, software, adaptation to digital and green economy. President Özgener said, “Our habits are constantly changing as of the period we live in. This change brings new concepts to the agenda in the business world. The most important legacy we will leave from today to tomorrow in terms of the world of economy is to contribute to this transformation. Many new technologies such as autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, digital money, augmented reality have entered our lives. The production infrastructure and financial structures of companies have also changed. I think it is a necessity to design the future of our country and city according to the new trends in the world to take steps faster in the face of this change. It is very important to raise the youth in accordance with the times, to equip them with new skills and to add them to the qualified workforce in order to do all these. The education program initiated within the University was prepared based on these considerations.”
THE UNIVERSITY OFFERS ALL ITS OPPORTUNITIES TO ALL YOUTH
President Özgener continued as follows: “We train young people studying at our university as individuals who are equipped with qualified knowledge in line with the demands of the business world, catch up with the times, and always focus on the better and the future. Software and computers are among the fields in which we are most ambitious about. We have a very strong technological infrastructure and training staff in this regard. We will make these opportunities available to all the youth in Turkey with the certificate program we will offer. By participating in the program, young people, who will receive high-level training in software and coding, will create new opportunities for themselves. We will have laid the foundation of an exemplary model that we believe can spread from Izmir to Turkey, under the leadership of the University.” President Özgener thanked, IZTO Vice Chairman and IUE Board of Trustees Member Emre Kızılgüneşler, IZTO 39th Computer and Hardware Technologies Group Councilors Şevket Akçay and Mehmet Sahver Ekmekçioğlu, 79th Information Technologies Group Councilors Ferzan Yalkut and Onur Doğan for their contributions to the implementation of the program.
A STRONG INDICATOR OF OUR EDUCATIONAL QUALITY
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, on the other hand, gave information about the training content. The Rector said, “With this certificate program we will provide all participants with basic computer and software knowledge that they may need in business life. We will give them the ability to produce programmatic solutions. Participants, who will receive training in areas such as computers, databases, web programming and software, will also stand out among their peers. This certificate program is a strong indicator of the education quality of our university, its competence in this field and what kind of planning it is in for the future. We will continue to produce projects that appeal to our country in general through various training programs in the coming period.”
APPLICATIONS CONTINUE
Prof. Dr. Yaşar Güneri Şahin, Dean of IUE Faculty of Engineering, on the other hand, pointed out that the education to be taken in the field of software and coding will also develop many personal skills such as analytical and creative thinking and bringing different solutions to events. Prof. Dr. Yaşar Güneri Şahin said, “We have started to receive applications for the training program, which will be held for the first time this year. As we expected, the interest is very high. There is no obligation to just graduate from engineering departments to participate in our training program. Regardless of the department, anyone with a bachelor's or associate's degree can join this training program. Of course, we have to conduct an exam to determine the level. However, this training program is a very important opportunity for those who want to improve themselves in different fields.”
