Exemplary collaboration for high school students
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) signed a protocol with Izmir Girls' High School by adding a new one to its collaborations to encourage high school students to carry out scientific studies and to guide them in this field. Within the scope of the protocol, students will carry out their research projects as they wish, with the support of the academics from IUE Faculty of Engineering, benefiting from the technological infrastructure of the University. Initially, a team of 5 students will work to develop ‘smart office systems’ under the consultancy of IUE faculty members. Students, who will come to IUE campus in teams and have the opportunity to realize their projects, will also experience the privilege of getting to know the campus life early.
The protocol, which paved the way for students to develop themselves, was signed by IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar and the Principal of Izmir Girls' High School, Suna Yoldaş Özdemirçelik. Prof. Dr. Yaşar Güneri Şahin, Dean of IUE Faculty of Engineering, and students also attended the signature ceremony that took place at IUE Board of Trustees Hall. Stating that the high school period is very important for young people to make career choices, determine their career goals and develop their creativity, Rector Aşkar stated that the cooperation made at this point has been very valuable.
WE HAVE ALWAYS SUPPORTED THEM
Rector Aşkar said, “We are in a period where competition is increasing, information is constantly updated, and new professions are emerging. We must raise young people who take science as a reference, focus on innovation, not content with what they have learned, and pursue their goals without getting tired of researching and working. There is no need to wait for young people to come to university to make them gain this perspective. As a university, we have cooperated with many institutions to support the development of high school students in this direction and to guide them in their scientific studies. We opened the doors of our campus to them, we stood by them. We have adopted it as one of our most important duties to illuminate the path of young people, no matter which university they think of studying at. We have further developed this understanding with the protocol we signed with Izmir Girls' High School, one of the most important schools in our city and country. I sincerely believe that our cooperation will yield positive results for young people.”
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
Stating that thanks to the cooperation, the social and cultural development of the students will be accelerated, Izmir Girls' High School Principal Suna Yoldaş Özdemirçelik said, “The fact that our students carry out their scientific studies at university environment is a very meaningful step for us, a step for the benefit of young people. Our students are very enthusiastic and excited. As one of the most preferred high schools in Turkey and constantly increasing its success ranking, we are happy to provide such an opportunity to our students. I would like to thank Izmir University of Economics for their support.”
